PRELIMINARY TESTS
Due to the heterogeneity of the types and components of the natural stones treated with SK 40, it is advisable to carry out preliminary tests from time to time to determine the right quantity of product to use to obtain the best water-repellent protection and to ensure the absence of any chromatic variations.
APPLICATION
SK 40 is a water repellent that prevents liquid water from being absorbed by capillary action by stone materials. SK 40 has proven effective for the following applications: - treatment of surfaces subjected to water pressure such as: swimming pools, fountains, etc. – protection of natural stone walls from driving rain and rising damp; – prevention of efflorescence, inhibiting the transport of salts to the surface; – prevention of damage caused by freeze-thaw cycles and salts. Prevents the penetration of water and saline solutions into the pores; protection from corrosion caused by acid rain.
HOW TO USE
SK 40 is suitable for the water-repellent impregnation of absorbent, slightly alkaline or neutral mineral building materials, especially natural stone. SK 40 is supplied ready for use. Apply SK 40 generously two or three times until saturated. The spray pressure and the diameter of the nozzle must be chosen in such a way that there is no atomization of the impregnating agent. Operate with low impregnation pressures (0.5 – 0.7 bar). The quantity to be applied depends on the absorbency of the substrate and the desired penetration depth, approximately 300-500 g/m2. Non-absorbent substrates cannot be treated with SK 40. Contact of SK 40 with water must be avoided before application. Containers and equipment must be clean and dry. Wet stone materials treated with SK 40 may show a darker color at the end of the treatment. Surfaces that are exposed to the external atmosphere and contaminated by dust, smog, salts, saline solutions, oil, etc. must be cleaned. In fact, the complete effectiveness of a water-repellent impregnation can only be ensured if the solution can penetrate the stone materials.
PRECAUTIONS
Do not smoke during application. Do not apply in direct sunlight or during rain or strong winds. When working with SK 40, consider the flammability due to the isopropyl alcohol used as a solvent: therefore avoid naked flames, sparks and heat sources. Water and/or CO2 extinguishers can be used to put out flames. Although SK 40 is not toxic, take the usual precautions for handling chemical products. Minimize contact. In case of contact of SK 40 with eyes, skin and clothes, wash immediately with plenty of water.
STORAGE
Store in a dry place. Do not expose to heat sources. Avoid humidity.
